A call was refused: international, US or Canadian number, or a special number

Understand why calls outside Japan, and AI agent calls to US or Canadian numbers, are refused.

Where to find it

Calls › Dialer, Calls › Outbound call agents

Open this screen
A refusal for a US number without written consent in the dialer.

Steps

  1. Read the refusal in the dialer or under the batch's refused number.
  2. Outside Japan: international calling is off for your workspace unless the platform operator turned it on.
  3. US or Canadian number called by your AI agent: written consent for that number must be on file, and a national do-not-call registry must be loaded to screen it.
  4. Emergency, premium-rate and special-service numbers are never dialled: call a regular number instead.

Troubleshooting

"That number is outside Japan, and international calling is off for this workspace."

Ask the platform operator to turn on international calling for this workspace.

"A US or Canadian number needs the contact's written consent on file before the AI agent calls."

Record their written consent on the contact first, or do not call. An owner or manager records it, with its evidence, for the contact's own number.

"No national do-not-call registry is loaded, so a US or Canadian number cannot be screened."

Only the platform operator can load the registry.

"Emergency, premium-rate and special-service numbers are never dialled."

Call a regular phone number instead.

"That is not a phone number that can be dialled."

Check the number and include the country code.

Tips

  • A person calling with the browser phone or their own phone is not held to the written-consent rule; it applies to calls your AI agent places.

Good to know

  • Written consent counts only when it is granted, its basis is written, it has evidence and it was given for the number being dialled.
  • The Consent on file form on Do-not-call & rules records consent with its evidence; it does not create the written-consent record that US and Canadian AI calls need.
