Build a squad with handoffs
Switched off until an operator turns it on
Choose the agents of a squad, which one answers first, and when each hands the caller to another.

Open this screenSteps
- Open AI agents › Squads and press New squad.
- Type the Name.
- Under Add an agent, choose the agent that answers first, then the others. The first is marked Answers first.
- On a member, press Add a handoff, choose who to Hand over to, describe When to hand over, and write What the caller hears.
- Press Save.

Troubleshooting
“A squad needs at least two agents on the Vapi engine. Switch agents to Vapi on the Agent voice page.”
Open Voice › Agent voice and switch at least two agents to the Vapi engine.
Tips
- You can also describe a squad to Composer and approve the squad it proposes.
Good to know
- Save stays greyed out until the squad has a name and at least two members.
- Squads run on Vapi. They stay switched off until the platform operator adds the Vapi API key; until then the page says Vapi is not connected.
