Setup wizard

Set up phone answering in seven steps, one at a time: a phone line and its business hours, your agent's voice, your AI prompt, the knowledge base your agent answers from, who to put through and the rules for calls, a test, then switching your AI agent on.

Where to find it

Home › Setup wizard (Easy mode: Essentials › Setup wizard)

Steps

  1. Open Home › Setup wizard in the sidebar. It opens on the first step that is not done yet.
  2. Choose Start setting up by voice to answer each question out loud, or Use the keyboard instead.
  3. Work through the steps: Phone line and business hours, Choose your agent's voice, Build your AI prompt, Choose your knowledge base, Who to put through, and call rules, Test incoming and outgoing calls and Switch on your AI agent.
  4. Use Next and Back, or click a step in the list to jump to it. A tick marks the steps that are done.
  5. At the last step, switch your AI agent on for the line. Until it is on, calls ring your team. Tick AI agent switched on for this line and press Save; to switch it off, untick it and press Save.

Settings on this screen

SettingWhat it doesDefault
Phone line and business hoursThe line callers reach, its number, its business hours (optional) and the main language of its calls. The call language is one setting shared with the AI agent that answers the line: changing it here or on the agent’s page changes both.—
Choose your agent's voiceThe voice your agent speaks on calls. Only voices that speak the line's call language are listed (optional). With no AI agent yet, you create it here first.—
Build your AI promptHow your agent behaves: persona, model, instructions and quick replies, saved with one Save (optional).—
Choose your knowledge baseThe knowledge base this line's calls are answered from: a knowledge base built from your sources in Call (one of your AI agents), or your Chat App agent's knowledge base through its API key. It applies whichever voice you chose.—
Who to put through, and call rulesWho rings when a caller asks for a person, transfer targets by time of day, and whether callers hear the monitoring notice (optional).—
Test incoming and outgoing callsTalk on screen, hear it on a real phone, or have the agent call a number (optional).—
Switch on your AI agentTurn your AI agent on for the line. Tick or untick it, then press Save. What you saved in the earlier steps is kept.—

Troubleshooting

"Only administrators and managers can change line settings."

You can read the wizard, but an administrator or manager has to make the changes.

"Choose a phone line first."

Go back to the first step and pick or create a line.

Tips

  • The voice, the prompt, who to put through and the test are optional: the switch never asks for them. The line does need an AI agent.
  • The setup wizard is in the sidebar in Easy and Full mode alike.
  • Each item in Home's setup checks opens its own step of the wizard.

Good to know

  • Getting a phone number connected is done on Phone numbers; the wizard links there.
